Educated in business at Erasmus University in Rotterdam and INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France, Fred has worked as General Manager, Chief Executive Officer and Board member for international industrial companies and as an entrepreneur.
Prior to his executive roles, Fred started his career with Royal Dutch Shell in HR, marketing and trading positions. His industry experience ranges from oil, chemicals and industrial gas to packaging, logistics and shipping. He also successfully managed some business turnaround situations.
His experience is highly international with emphasis on Europe, Asia and the FSU countries. He assisted in updating the sustainability strategy of AkzoNobel and served as Director of Innovation and Strategic Marketing at this global paint, coatings and chemicals company.
Fred serves on the investment advisory council of an international clean tech fund and on the Dutch ministerial bio renewable and business platform. His entrepreneurial activities are in health promotion and distributed energy and more recently in clean tech where smart and bio based materials, as well as industrial biotechnology are in his focus.
His expertise is in innovation and sustainability as a business driver, as well as scaling up ventures. His interests include the role of business leadership for a more sustainable world, executive vitality and next level innovation practices. Fred served as Board member of the Young President’s Organisation’s Sustainability network, is member of the European Leadership Platform, mentor and Board member of several technology ventures, and Advisory Board member of the Erasmus Center of Future Energy.
Fred’s broad network allows him to connect with technology institutes, venture and growth investors and technology research companies, as well as corporate venture funds. His strong interest in technology, talent and business model innovation drew him to the next innovation super cycle: industry 4.0, robotics and Artificial intelligence, and its relevance for important global issues.
