Problem they are Solving:

The need to purify, protect, and preserve the world’s food and water from harvest through to transport.

Their Solution:

Sunshields for agricultural crops to protect against solar and water stress, and ozone-based atmosphere management systems for cold transport shipping containers and storage supported by real-time tracking of atmospheric conditions and route information.

Why We invested:

The global food industry is $7.5 Trillion annually and in drastic need of innovation. The challenges of increasing production to meet growing populations require new more efficient and environmental solutions, particularly in the face of climate change and water scarcity. Globalization has required the shipping of foods greater and greater distances, while 20-30% of global produce is harmed or destroyed by decay during transport. Purfresh provides new solutions to decrease energy and water resource intensity while increasing yield and food safety through food production and transport, providing compelling returns to customers.

Company’s Biggest Strength:

Purfresh has combined sophisticated clean chemistry and food science with a fundamental understanding of its customers from produce growers to shipping lines to supermarkets. This integrated approach has produced completely unique products allowing the global food industry to continue to adapt to meet conflicting demands of sustainability, climate change, globalization, food safety, and resource scarcity while increasing profitability.

Implication When Successful:

At each stage in the food chain from the grower to storage, transport, and retailing, Purfresh ensures greater yields of food products getting to market with higher quality, shelf life, and food safety. Purfresh maximizes the value for the customer and the profit for the grower, shipper, and retailer, while decreasing the burden on the environment.
