Jim Fletcher
Managing Director
Jim has spent over 25 years in the venture
capital industry. His initial nine years were on the VC fund side as
a founding partner with Chrysalix Executive Chairman Mike Brown of
Ventures West, Canada's largest technology VC fund at the time. He
went on to become an individual VC investor while also working on the
operations side, playing a variety of interim CEO, CFO and other
roles as required.
Jim has specialized in actively founding,
funding and assisting companies through various stages of growth -
from financing, management team development and market positioning in
early-stage companies to corporate finance and organizational issues
at later stages of growth. He was a co-founder of Spectrum Signal
Processing and CEO of China Capital, and served as CFO of Angus Reid
Group, Canada's largest market research firm, and managed the sale of
that company to Ipsos S.A. of France. Before taking an interest in
the VC industry, Jim started his professional career as an Investment
Banker with Morgan Stanley & Co., from where he moved to become
Director, Corporate Finance and Treasurer with MacMillan Bloedel.
Jim divides his time between serving on the
Boards of three Chrysalix investees and providing overall guidance to
the Chrysalix funds, serving on the Boards of technology companies in
industries unrelated to Chrysalix, and a variety of social enterprise
Boards and activities including being co-founder of BC’s chapter of
Social Venture Partners, which has developed into one of the top
performers within the SVPI universe.
Mr. Fletcher has an Honours Degree in
Engineering Physics from Queen's University and an MBA from Harvard
Business School.
